I deleted my twitter when I had 26K followers. Didn’t miss it a bit. I keep hovering my finger over the deactivate button for FB. I have a feeling I won’t miss that either. Thanks for this post.

You’re right. Over time you won’t miss it. 😢I hope your folks followed you here!

Thanks Ruben! I flirt with full deletion - I moved the apps off the phone Home Screen last year, so that I have to go hunting for them using the search feature — and then I gave up almost all posting during that time — I found this quite beneficial to my mental health and time management. Full deletion may be in my future — but I fear I would miss the poetry connections.

man it's really so cold how they've ensnared and entrapped us in their bear trap algorithms

On the verge. Seriously. I have reclaimed most of my early mornings though. Thanks for this.

I’m with you. I dropped FB and Insta a little over a year ago. Don’t miss them at all

Oh my god, yes, Ruben! Preach! I was thinking this morning before I got out of bed how much more quickly first drafts of stories and novels materialized before 2020 when my attention span really started to suffer due to covid and all the sheltering in place that led to waaayyy too much screen time. I did leave X the night of the shameful 2024 presidential election.

oh man i was just thinking about how tragic that night was for so many parts of my art practice :,( but it's alright

The rage and disappointment and worry.

That’s right! 2020 slowed things down too much.

It sure did. Oy.

Currently doing a similar thing. Putting all my social apps on an iPad (I hate iPads) and getting them all off my phone laptop (website blocking apps). I am so tired of picking up my phone out of habit.

You need to make it work, so you can work.

Living in Hollywood during my high school years was not so great for me. I didn’t fit in. I have deleted apps too but I need to keep some because of what I do.

I do set timers for myself. And yes, it's great to reclaim time for yourself!
